Sandbox Game is a free falling-sand physics simulator you can play directly in your browser. Draw with sand, water, lava, fire, acid and other materials, then watch gravity, fluid movement and material reactions change the scene in real time.
There is no fixed objective or score. Choose a material, build your own setup and experiment with the 22 available materials. The game supports mouse, trackpad and touch controls, and it does not require an account or download.
How to Play Sandbox Game
- Choose a material from the panel. Use the category tabs to switch between powders, liquids, solids, energy and tools.
- Draw inside the chamber by clicking or dragging. On a phone or tablet, drag with one finger.
- Adjust the brush with the Size slider. Keyboard users can also use [ and ].
- Pause the simulation with Space and use Step to advance one frame at a time.
- Erase particles by selecting Eraser, pressing E, or using the right mouse button.
- Try a preset scene such as Terrain, Volcano, Rainfall, Wire Lab, Hourglass or Acid Tank.
- Save your scene with Save PNG when you want an image of the current chamber.
Sandbox Game Materials
The simulator includes 22 materials and tools. Their movement and reactions are handled particle by particle, so the same setup can develop differently as materials spread, fall, burn, freeze or react.
Sand
Falls, forms slopes and can melt into glass when it touches lava.
Water
Flows sideways, freezes near ice and can turn into steam around intense heat.
Oil
Floats above denser water and can ignite when it reaches fire or other heat sources.
Lava
Flows slowly, ignites flammable materials and can harden into stone when it meets water.
Acid
Dissolves many materials while wall and glass can contain it.
Fire
Spreads to fuel, reacts with water and eventually leaves smoke, ash or empty space.
Gunpowder
Explodes when ignited by fire or a spark and can trigger nearby powder.
Metal
Acts as a solid conductor that lets an electric spark move along a wire.
Spark
Travels through connected metal and can ignite flammable materials or gunpowder.
Plant
Can grow through nearby water and burns when it reaches fire.
Ice
Can freeze nearby water and melts when exposed to fire or lava.
Snow
Falls like a light powder and melts into water around heat.
Wood
A solid building material that burns slowly and can leave ash behind.
Stone
A static solid that can be dissolved by acid or affected by explosions.
Glass
An acid-resistant solid that can be created when lava reacts with sand.
Wall
An indestructible building tool for tanks, barriers and controlled experiments.
Cloner
Copies the first valid material it touches and continues producing that material.
Void
Removes nearby materials, making it useful as a drain or disposal point.
Seed
Falls like powder and can turn into a plant when it reaches water.
Ash
A light inert powder produced by some fires.
Steam
Rises as a gas and can condense back into water.
Smoke
Drifts upward from fire and gradually disappears.
Reactions to Try
- Lava + Water — cool lava into stone while nearby water turns into steam.
- Lava + Sand — use lava to transform some sand particles into glass.
- Spark + Metal + Gunpowder — build a metal path and send a spark toward a powder charge.
- Oil + Water + Fire — layer oil above water, then ignite the upper layer.
- Seed + Water — drop seeds into water and watch plants begin to spread.
- Cloner + Water — create a continuous water source and combine it with Void for a drain.
- Ice + Water — place ice beside a pool and watch some nearby water freeze.
- Acid + Wall — make a wall container before adding acid and other test materials.

Why does the simulation slow down?
A large number of active particles can require more processing. Try Chunky resolution, disable Glow, reduce simulation speed or clear part of the chamber.
How do I make glass?
Place lava next to sand. Sand particles touched by lava can turn into glass.
How do electric sparks work?
Draw a connected metal line and add a spark. The charge can move through the metal and trigger gunpowder or ignite some flammable materials.
Can I save my sandbox?
You can use Save PNG to export an image of the chamber. The simulation state itself is not saved between visits.
